The bottom line: Huntington Bank is a good option if you live near a branch and prefer in-person banking. It pays high interest rates on its money market account and select CD terms. But you'll still earn higher rates with the best online banks, without worrying about hefty minimum deposits or monthly fees like you would with Huntington.

You'll earn a low interest rate with a Huntington Premier Savings Account. It's comparable to what other big brick-and-mortar banks pay, but the best high-yield savings accounts are usually with online banks.

You can also open a Huntington Relationship Savings Account and link it to an eligible Huntington checking account to earn a slightly higher rate. This rate is still relatively low, though.

Huntington Bank offers high promotional CD rates on select terms. But the standard rates are very low, and you can secure a better APY at one of the best online banks.

    How Huntington Bank Compares

    Huntington Bank vs. Chase Bank

Chase Bank has locations in 48 U.S. states, so if you want a nationwide branch and ATM network, it's the better choice.

There are several Chase checking accounts, and the choice between Chase and Huntington may come down to what you want out of your everyday spending account. For example, Huntington has an account with no monthly service fee, while Chase charges a fee on all accounts unless you qualify to waive them. But Chase Sapphire℠ Banking waives foreign transaction fees, which is great if you're a frequent traveler.

Both banks pay low rates on CDs with the exception of a few select terms. If you want a CD, it could depend on which term length you're looking to open. Neither is the best option for earning a high rate on a savings account.

    Chase Bank review

Hun ch bank is closer to where you live. U.S. Bank has more locations around the U.S., so it's a good choice if you travel around the country often.

Why You Should Trust Us: How We Reviewed Huntington Bank

We used Personal Finance Insider's bank account methodology to review Hungtington's checking, savings, and money market accounts. We used our certificate of deposit methodology to rate its CDs.

We look at the ethics, mobile app, and customer service for every type of bank account. Other factors we consider depend on the type of account we're reviewing — for example, we look at overdraft protection for checking accounts and early withdrawal penalties for CDs. We give each account a rating between zero and five.
